Romelu Lukaku is reaping the benefits of working at Inter under a coach who supports him in Antonio Conte, according to former Nerazzurri forward Jurgen Klinsmann.
Lukaku has been in sublime form since his club-record transfer from Manchester United back in the summer of 2019, taking his game to a whole new level under Conte in Serie A.
The Belgian has made 33 appearances in all competitions this season and scored 24 goals, along with eight assists, reportedly earning him the attention of Barcelona ahead of this summer’s transfer window.
Klinsmann, who spent three years at Inter between 1989 and 1992, wrote in a column for ESPN today: “Having the support of a coach is vital for a striker.
“You can see the benefit in what Lukaku is achieving at Inter under Conte, who previously wanted to sign him at Chelsea.
“Lukaku has always scored goals, but his game has gone to another level in Italy.
“Inter lead Serie A by six points as a result.
“It is so important to know a coach counts on you, believes in you and says, even if you don’t score for a few games, that it is no big deal.”
Lukaku has scored 58 goals in 84 appearances since joining Inter two summers ago and has surprised even the greatest with his performances in Serie A.
Alessandro Altobelli and Massimo Moratti have both admitted this week that they did not expect the 27-year-old to have such a decisive impact on the Nerazzurri’s fortunes, when Lukaku first arrived.
