Inter are on autopilot and no one will be able to stop them winning the Serie A title this season, at least according to their former head coach Alberto Zaccheroni.

The Nerazzurri are currently sitting nine points clear at the top of the Serie A standings after 27 games played and are on an eight-game winning run in the league.

Juventus have won the last nine Serie A titles in a row but Antonio Conte’s side are in a great position to put an end to their arch rivals’ dominance in the Italian top flight.

“I don’t see anyone who can oppose Inter, who have been in gear for some time and are now on auto-pilot,” Zaccheroni, who also coached AC Milan and Juventus, told Italian daily newspaper Il Giornale on Wednesday.

“The Nerazzurri have found the right balance and have superior physicality compared to the others.

“Now it will be hard for those who chase because now Inter are confident and it is difficult for them to catch up.”

Zaccheroni, who coached Inter during the latter half of the 2003-04 season, then went on to suggest that some of Inter’s longer-serving players are going above and beyond at the moment in the bid to finally win some silverware.

“You can touch wood as much as you like, but today the players who have been at Inter for a while, such as Ivan Perisic, are running five times more than they need to because they have the chance to win something after a long time,” he explanied.

“This is not an insignificant thing.

“Hunger, desire and motivation make a huge difference.”

Inter will not play again in Serie A until April 3 after Saturday’s match at home to Sassuolo was postponed today.

Milan’s local health authority ordered the game to be called off after four Nerazzurri players – Stefan de Vrij, Matias Vecino, Danilo D’Ambrosio and Samir Handanovic – tested positive for COVID-19 this week.

Conte’s side will therefore return to action at Bologna after the upcoming international break.
