Inter’s game with Sassuolo will not take place on Saturday after Milan’s health authority ordered it to be postponed.

The Nerazzurri have confirmed via a statement on their website that Stefan de Vrij and Matias Vecino have become the third and fourth players to test positive for COVID-19 this week, after Danilo D’Ambrosio and Samir Handanovic.

As a result of the outbreak at the club, Milan’s local health authority has enforced three measures in an attempt to prevent the further spread of the virus.

The first of these measures, as announced by Inter’s statement, is that Inter must suspend all kind of activity with their first team for four days, up to and including Sunday March 21.

The second measure is that Inter and Sassuolo are not permitted to take part in Saturday’s Serie A match at San Siro.

The third measure is that all of Inter’s players are prohibited from joining up with their national teams for the upcoming international break.

On Monday, Inter will get their players to undergo another round of molecular testing.

The club also confirmed in their statement that De Vrij and Vecino are both in quarantine at home.

A report from Gazzetta dello Sport says Inter’s game with Sassuolo is likely to be rescheduled for Wednesday 7 April.

Lega Serie A will need to confirm the postponement following the announcement from Milan’s local health authority, but FcInterNews.it have assured they will do this later today, without any Juventus vs Napoli-style controversy.

The Nerazzurri are now Serie A’s second-worst affected team in terms of COVID-19 cases among players, as highlighted by a leading Italian journalist.

As far as the club’s directors are concerned, chief executive Beppe Marotta is the only person still positive after Piero Ausilio joined Alessandro Antonello, Dario Baccin and Angelo Capellini in returning a negative test yesterday.

Tuttosport’s print edition assured supporters this morning that Marotta was in a ‘more than good’ condition, though.
