Nicolo Barella has thanked Inter’s players and directors for helping him improve on a constant basis with the Nerazzurri.

The midfielder was named in the Italian Footballers’ Association’s Serie A Team of the Year for the 2019-20 season, along with teammate Stefan de Vrij.

Barella finally received his award at the Gran Gala del Calcio tonight and spoke to Sky Sport Italia about his achievement.

“It’s a huge honour, I’m pleased to be here for the second year running,” the 24-year-old said.

“I’m doing well, but I must thank the entire team and the club for this award.

“They’ve always had great faith in me and are always helping me to improve.”

Barella has scored three goals and provided 10 assists for Antonio Conte’s side this season, most notably netting in the 2-0 win over Juventus in Serie A back in January.

He is reportedly in line to become Inter’s next captain after Samir Handanovic and is likely to receive a contract extension at the end of this season, if recent reports in Italy are to be believed.

Earlier today, Barella’s former Cagliari teammate Joao Pedro admitted he was surprised at how quickly the Italy international had taken control of Inter’s midfield after joining in 2019.
