Nicolo Barella is good enough to play for any of Europe’s biggest clubs, according to Inter’s former defender Beppe Bergomi.
The midfielder is enjoying a spectacular second season under Antonio Conte, having featured in every match the Nerazzurri have played so far.
Barella has scored three goals for Inter in the 2020-21 campaign while also providing 10 assists in all competitions.
Speaking to Sky Sport 24 last night, Nerazzurri legend Bergomi argued: “Barella could play in any top side.
“We’re talking about a mature guy who can do both sides of the game perfectly, which is a requirement in modern football.
“Barella has improved a lot over time in terms of avoiding bookings and not giving away cheap fouls, aspects where he was lacking before.
“We’re talking about a midfielder who really is complete.”
Barella is reportedly in line to start for Italy in tomorrow’s opening 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier at home to Northern Ireland.
The 24-year-old reached the Azzurri’s training base in Parma last night, along with Alessandro Bastoni and Stefano Sensi, after the trio were cleared to travel by Milan’s local health authority.
Barella, Bastoni and Sensi all began the international break by training at Appiano Gentile as they waited for permission to leave, following Inter’s COVID-19 outbreak last week.
As per a report earlier today, the club confirmed there were no further positive cases following the latest round of testing.
