Inter look set to miss out on the opportunity to sign Georginio Wijnaldum from Liverpool, at least according to a report in the Spanish media today.

Catalan newspaper Sport said the midfielder was ‘very close’ to joining Barcelona for next season after reaching a pre-contract agreement with the La Liga giants.

Barca have offered Wijnaldum a three-year deal and consider the 30-year-old to be a transfer priority for head coach Ronald Koeman, his fellow countryman.

Inter are thought to be interested in him as well, as per a report in Italy this week, but the Nerazzurri will lose out if Barca secure a deal before the summer.

Wijnaldum is viewed as an ideal signing for Barcelona as they look to become competitive again on the European stage.

The Dutch international denied there were any updates on his future in an interview on Tuesday, but Sport assured there was already ‘an important agreement’ between the parties.

Wijnaldum has made 226 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool since joining from Newcastle United in 2016, scoring 22 goals for the reigning Premier League champions in that time.
