Romelu Lukaku has blown Mauro Icardi out of the water with his performances for Inter, at least if you believe the Nerazzurri’s former midfielder Evaristo Beccalossi.

Lukaku has scored 59 goals in 85 appearances since joining the Nerazzurri in a club-record deal from Manchester United in 2019.

Icardi netted 124 in 219 games across all competitions before leaving for Paris Saint-Germain two summers ago – but despite his impressive numbers, it seems nobody is prepared to even compare the two strikers now.

Asked which was the better forward during a YouTube live stream, Beccalossi responded: “Lukaku and…?

“Let’s go straight to the next question, there’s no need to answer that.”

Despite his irony, Beccalossi admitted he was surprised at just how brilliant Lukaku’s contribution had been to Inter during the last two seasons.

“Lukaku was very underrated at the start,” he argued.

“He was a bit cumbersome when he arrived at Inter, he hadn’t trained for a while.

“But since he’s got into condition he’s been a devastating player; even when he’s having an off-day, he never shies away.

“Lukaku takes part in the play, helps his teammates and makes his presence felt.

“I’d seen him play, but never this well, so I take my hat off to him.

“I’m crazy for Lukaku, I rate him so highly.”

Lukaku was on target for Belgium during their FIFA World Cup qualifiers last week, scoring in the 3-1 win over Wales and then in a 1-1 draw against the Czech Republic.

A report in Italy today suggested the 27-year-old was chasing a ‘triple crown’ in 2021, with the Serie A title, the golden boot and European Championship glory all in his sights.
