Inter’s rumoured interest in Nikola Maksimovic has gained yet more traction in the Italian media tonight.

Tuttosport reported this morning that the Napoli defender – who will be a free agent in the summer – was a transfer target for the Nerazzurri, with Andrea Ranocchia likely to depart.

This news has now received further confirmation from Gazzetta dello Sport (via FcInterNews.it), who said Inter could sign Maksimovic for a ‘very reasonable’ salary.

The 29-year-old could agree to join Antonio Conte’s side on a free transfer with an annual wage of €2.5 million plus add-ons.

Inter are looking for a replacement at centre-back for Ranocchia, who is out of contract at the end of this season and seems unlikely to renew.

Genoa have been in for the Italian in the past and the Milan-based publication suggested the Grifone could make another attempt to sign him.

Maksimovic has made 26 appearances in all competitions for Napoli this season, although he was an unused substitute when Inter beat Gennaro Gattuso’s side at San Siro in December.
