Inter are unlikely to sell Romelu Lukaku to Manchester City this summer – at least if you believe Pep Guardiola.

Lukaku has never shown any sign of wanting to leave Inter but the Nerazzurri’s star striker has been linked nonetheless with the Premier League leaders, along with Barcelona.

Speaking to reporters in a press conference today, Guardiola laid out Manchester City’s plans for how they would replace Sergio Aguero when he leaves in the summer.

Guardiola said (as quoted by the Daily Mail): “Maybe, maybe we are going to find a new player to replace Sergio.

“In terms of numbers, it is almost impossible.

“In terms of what he means to this club, it is impossible.

“Listen, with these prices we are not going to buy a striker.

“We cannot afford it.

“All the clubs struggle financially and we are not an exception.

“Maybe we are going to buy, maybe we don’t.

“Today there is more chance that we won’t.

“We have enough players in the first team, interesting players in the academy.

“There is a big chance, given the world economic problems, that we are not going to sign a striker.”

Lukaku was said to be ‘very likely’ to stay at Inter by Sky Sport Italia’s transfer reporter Luca Marchetti earlier today.

The 27-year-old has scored 25 goals in all competitions for Antonio Conte’s side this season, with 59 in total since he joined from Manchester United in the summer of 2019.

Lukaku will lead Inter back into battle tomorrow night when they resume their Serie A title bid away at Bologna.
