As Inter owners Suning look to bring in investment or secure a loan to continue their tenure at the helm, Italian journalist Mario Sconcerti has warned that any deal must be in the interests of the club.

The ruling Zhang family have been in discussions with various parties since the turn of the year as they look to manage rising debts at the Nerazzurri, whilst they are also considering taking a loan to keep the club afloat whilst allowing them to retain ownership.

Writing in today’s newspaper edition of Corriere della Sera, Sconcerti insisted that it was essential that any deal benefitted Inter and was not only done to protect Suning, whilst admitting his surprise at seeing the Nerazzurri sit top of Serie A against such an uncertain backdrop at the club.

“The surprising thing, if anything, is the ease of the journey. Inter were there and based themselves around Antonio Conte, despite the corporate crisis for which we must all now cheer for someone to lend €250 million to a billionaire,” Sconcerti declared.

“Perhaps the real question is not whether Suning will secure a loan to pay off, but whether Inter really want it. I don’t know the answer, but this cannot be about Zhang’s interest. It must be about the interests of Inter.”

Sconcerti went on to assess the Nerazzurri’s 1-0 win over Bologna in Serie A last night, as Conte’s side moved ever closer to the Scudetto as they extended their lead at the top to eight points. The journalist suggested that Inter had maintained a nine match winning streak without impressing in recent matches however.

“Inter continue in their little obscurity. They have struggled in the last four matches but always increase their advantage over their challengers. [Nicolo] Barella and [Achraf] Hakimi seem tired and are less creative, this is lacking in their support for [Romelu] Lukaku and Lautaro [Martinez].

“Bologna offered little in attack but they found lots of space. They are also relying on Christian Eriksen to cover, but he is not supported at the moment by Barella or the others. It seems that Inter have the finishing line in sight and are managing the games. Maybe they are right, the other teams seem exhausted.”
