Italian journalist Mario Sconcerti has suggested that Inter have been fortunate in facing no real challenges for the title as they move closer to sealing the Scudetto this season.

Antonio Conte’s side have an eight point cushion over AC Milan with a game in hand after beating Bologna 1-0 last night, and are on course for a first league title since 2010.

Appearing on the ‘Maracana Show’ on Italian radio station TMW Radio earlier today, Sconcerti insisted that the Nerazzurri were not having a stellar season and had benefitted from a lack of any real rivals for the title, whilst also lamenting the state of Italian football.

“Inter are not having an exceptional season. They are playing the season they wanted in order to win the title, but the others have never competed except Milan, who gave up after a few rounds,” Sconcerti claimed.

“We are a failing league with €4 billion of debt. We are condemned to second choices and have not won anything (in Europe) in 11 years. The national team have done nothing in the last three World Cups. Juve are a problem within the football system.

“We have seen how American magnates are conquering Italian football, and they do not put €50-70m in the hands of directors. They do the business. There is no longer the patron president, today there are entrepreneurs who want to see clearly and directly without giving anyone money to spend,” Sconcerti added.

Inter face Sassuolo in a rearranged match at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on Wednesday as they look to continue their nine match winning streak and move closer to the Scudetto.

The Nerazzurri took advantage of draws for Milan and Juventus yesterday to extend their lead and could go into next weekend’s fixtures with an 11 point gap at the top.
