Inter coach Antonio Conte’s embrace on the touchline after the final whistle of the Nerazzurri’s 1-0 win over Bologna in Serie A yesterday was a moment of great significance, Italian media suggest.

A Romelu Lukaku goal on the half-hour mark was enough to overcome the Rossoblu and secure a ninth straight victory for Inter, sending them eight points clear at the top of Serie A with a game in hand.

Conte rushed to hug assistant Gabriele Oriali on the touchline at full time and, as reported in today’s newspaper edition of Tuttosport, the moment was seen as significant in the coach’s confidence in securing a first league title for Inter since 2010.

“It seemed like a hug between two castaways who have just landed. For Inter this means finally winning after 11 long years,” the newspaper declared.

Inter now have the opportunity to edge even closer to the Scudetto when they welcome Sassuolo to the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on Wednesday, with victory allowing them to open up an 11 point gap on AC Milan with just nine games remaining.
