Inter have tightened their COVID-19 measures after last week’s outbreak in the Italian national team, according to a report in the Italian media today.
Leonardo Bonucci, Federico Bernardeschi, Marco Verratti, Alessandro Florenzi, Vincenzo Grifo and Alessio Cragno have all tested positive since returning to their clubs after the international break.
Gazzetta dello Sport’s print edition said Inter were testing Nicolo Barella, Alessandro Bastoni and Stefano Sensi every 24 hours in a bid to curb the spread of the virus.
The three Italians are training as usual with the Nerazzurri’s first team but they cannot enter Inter’s dressing room or have lunch with their teammates, both precautionary measures.
Barella, Bastoni and Sensi all tested negative for COVID-19 yesterday along with the rest of Inter’s players.
Antonio Conte should therefore have Barella and Sensi available for tomorrow’s rearranged Serie A fixture at home to Sassuolo, while Bastoni is ruled out through suspension.
Barella is likely to start in midfield, potentially replacing Marcelo Brozovic as a play-maker.
