Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic has revealed that a poor performance against Inter earlier this season was the trigger to make him work harder and find form.

The Serbia international squandered a fine opportunity before losing Danilo D’Ambrosio at the back post to allow the Inter defender to snatch a last-gasp winner in a 4-3 Nerazzurri win on the opening day of the season, but has gone on to score 13 league goals this term.

In an interview published in today’s newspaper edition of La Repubblica, the 21-year-old admitted that his poor performance had been a spark to push on and improve, whilst considering his future at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

“Against Inter I missed a chance and gave one away. I endured a very difficult moment but I told myself I had to change. I’m glad to have taken such a big slap to wake up,” Vlahovic declared.

“I don’t like to talk about my contract because we are not in a good place in the league. [President Rocco] Commisso will do everything to improve the team because he is ambitious. We’ll see in the summer, I’m open to any discussions with the club.”

The former Partizan striker then went on to reveal his Fantasy Football team and admitted he was a keen player, putting himself in his team alongside Inter striker Lautaro Martinez.

“I have myself in attack of course! [Nikola] Milenkovic is like an older brother to me and helped me with the bids.

“I put him in my team with [Bartlomiej] Dragowski, [Leonardo] Bonucci, [Davide] Faraoni, [Giacomo] Bonaventura, [Hakan] Calhanoglu, Luis Alberto, [Jordan] Veretout, [Juan] Cuadrado, Lautaro and Joao Pedro.

“I’m close to the top but whoever has [Luis] Muriel is in the lead.”

Vlahovic joined Fiorentina from Partizan in 2018 and has scored 21 goals in 75 appearances for the Viola. The striker made his international debut for Serbia in October 2020 and has earned seven caps.
