Inter captain Samir Handanovic is expected to sign a new contract with the Nerazzurri, as he closes in on the all-time appearance record for a goalkeeper at the club.
As reported in today’s newspaper edition of Tuttosport, the Slovenia international will start against Cagliari in Serie A tomorrow to make his 382nd appearance for Inter in all competitions, equalling Ivano Bordon in second place.
With nine games remaining this season, Handanovic is expected to overtake Bordon and close in on club record-holder Walter Zenga, who represented the Nerazzurri 473 times between 1978 and 1994.
Whilst Handanovic’s contract is due to expire in 2022, his agent Fali Ramadani has begun discussions with Inter over a renewal, with the club ready to ditch plans to move for Udinese goalkeeper Juan Musso and target additions in other areas of the pitch.
Inter are ready to continue with 36-year-old Handanovic and retain Ionut Radu as his back-up, potentially allowing him the opportunity to surpass Zenga over the next two seasons.
