Former Palermo and AC Milan full-back Cristian Zaccardo believes Roma striker Edin Dzeko would have been a success at Inter had his January move gone through.

The Bosnia international was heavily linked with a move to the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza after falling out with Roma coach Paulo Fonseca and was temporarily frozen out, whilst being stripped of the captaincy.

It led to discussions over an exchange between Inter and Roma that would have seen Dzeko and Nerazzurri forward Alexis Sanchez swap clubs before the deal collapsed, and Zaccardo felt the 35-year-old could have been useful to Antonio Conte.

“Dzeko could certainly be an option in the market, Inter had come close to signing him in the past,” Zaccardo claimed in an interview published in yesterday’s newspaper edition of Libero.

“They had already tried for him in January and I think he would do well with the Nerazzurri. Despite his age, he remains a great striker.”

Dzeko joined Roma from Premier League club Manchester City in 2015 and has gone on to score 116 goals in 251 appearances, becoming the Giallorossi’s third highest ever goalscorer.

Zaccardo, meanwhile, enjoyed success with Palermo and Parma and was included in Italy’s 2006 World Cup-winning squad.
