Inter centre-back Stefan De Vrij insists his teammates have no intention of letting up after securing an 11th consecutive win with victory over Cagliari in Serie A today.

A second half Matteo Darmian goal was enough to settle the close encounter at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza and move Inter 11 points clear at the top of the table, with just eight games remaining.

Speaking to Italian television channel InterTV after the final whistle, the Netherlands international emphasised the mentality within the squad and insisted they were looking forward to the next matches.

“We don’t want to stop. We are doing well, in good shape and the results are coming. We want to continue like this,” the former Lazio defender declared.

“We have improved a lot lately defensively. It requires the entire team and we united even more as a group. We knew it would be a battle today. [Leonardo] Pavoletti and Joao Pedro fight for every ball but we responded as we know how to. We were good at not conceding anything and in finding a goal.”

Inter have come under pressure from opponents in recent weeks despite their positive results, but De Vrij insisted it was evidence of their ability to adapt and find wins against any team.

“I think this is a decisive step in recognising the differences in each game. You can’t always play the same way, so something else is needed, as it was today. We have improved our pragmatism,” De Vrij concluded.

The 29-year-old joined Inter from Lazio in 2018 and has scored seven goals in 119 appearances for the Nerazzurri.
