Inter midfielder Arturo Vidal will not feature in today’s Serie A match against Cagliari as he continues to work his way back to fitness after knee surgery.

With Nicolo Barella suspended against his former club, there was a possibility that Vidal could deputise but he has not been named in the squad, with Stefano Sensi given a starting berth.

According to FCInterNews.it, coach Antonio Conte took the decision to leave Chile international Vidal out due to concerns over his fitness, with the midfielder only just recently returning from an operation on his left knee.

Vidal underwent surgery after last month’s 1-0 win over Atalanta and returned to full training last week, but today’s match against the Isolani has come too soon for his involvement.

Instead, the summer arrival from Barcelona has remained behind and will undergo individual training today with a view to returning to full fitness as soon as possible.

The 33-year-old has scored twice in 30 appearances in his debut season at Inter.
