Romelu Lukaku’s impact at Inter this season means that the Nerazzurri have no reason to change their aesthetic approach, according to Italian journalist Luigi Garlando.
The Belgium international has struck 21 times in 29 Serie A games this term to fire Inter to an 11 point lead over AC Milan at the top of the table, and Garlando compared him to Rossoneri striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Writing in today’s newspaper edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, Garlando suggested that Lukaku’s devastating form meant that Inter had no reason to change their style, but Ibrahimovic’s recent unreliability may prompt action across the city.
“Today [Milan coach Stefano] Pioli will attend Inter vs Cagliari and he can’t help but wonder, if Ibra had played 28 games instead of 17, as Romelu Lukaku has, with the same team spirit, same sense of responsibility, where would Milan be now?” Garlando questioned.
“Because ‘Big Rom’ is not only Inter’s top scorer, he has provided assists, strength, and depth. He works hard defensively. For Milan, Ibra, [Hakan] Calhanoglu, [Franck] Kessie, they are a lot, sometimes everything.
“Lukaku’s athleticism is the cornerstone of Inter’s upcoming league title. With Lukaku, the Nerazzurri are as beautiful as when they wake up in the morning, without the need for a beautician. Milan need one and have it in Pioli,” Garlando concluded.
Inter secured a 1-0 won over Cagliari in Serie A today to maintain their lead over Milan, as they close in on a first Scudetto since 2010.
