Looking ahead to his side’s Serie A match against Benevento tomorrow evening, Sassuolo coach Roberto De Zerbi urged his players to show the spirit they displayed against Inter.

The Neroverdi fell to a narrow 2-1 defeat to Inter in midweek and went into the game just days after rescuing a late 2-2 draw against Roma.

With a trip to the Stadio Municipal Ciro Vigorito to come, De Zerbi used an interview with Sassuolo Channel today to demand a similar level of fight from his players against Filippo Inzaghi’s team.

“Sassuolo must be proud of their mentality, with the spirit with which they fought against Roma and Inter,” the 41-year-old declared.

“There are things we can improve but we need to bring this spirit to tomorrow’s game, which is difficult but will be different to the other two. We must remain aware of what we achieved in those two games, because not everyone sees football this way.”

Goals from strikers Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez ensured that Inter secured all three points against the Neroverdi on Wednesday, despite a late consolation from Hamed Traore.

The match at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza had originally been scheduled for March but was postponed due to an outbreak of COVID-19 within the Inter squad, affecting four players and other members of backroom staff.
