Samir Handanovic is set to become Inter’s second highest appearance maker for a goalkeeper when he features against Napoli this evening, and is close to a new contract.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of Tuttosport, the Slovenia international is expected to start at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona and feature for the 383rd time for Inter, overtaking Ivano Bordon.

Only Walter Zenga has played more matches in goal for the Nerazzurri than Handanovic, with the captain looking to close in on his 473 games.

Meanwhile, Handanovic is in line for a new contract with the club, with Inter keen to extend a deal that is set to expire next summer by a further a year.

An agreement is already thought to be in place but will not be officially signed until the end of the season, whilst Inter look to bring in a new goalkeeper to serve as back-up before eventually replacing him.

The first choice is Udinese’s Argentine Juan Musso, whilst Napoli custodian Alex Meret is also amongst a list of options, although both are being tracked by Roma.

Elsewhere, Inter continue to monitor Cagliari keeper Alessio Cragno and Atalanta’s Pierluigi Gollini.
