Inter’s botched involvement in the European Super League is set to have political repercussions for Beppe Marotta, a report in the Italian media revealed today.

Corriere dello Sport’s print edition said the Nerazzurri’s chief executive would resign tomorrow from his position as the Italian Football Federation’s adviser to the Lega Serie A.

Marotta shared the role with Lazio president Claudio Lotito but his position is now considered untenable by his Serie A counterparts, most notably Torino president Urbano Cairo.

He was elected in February but Inter’s attempted breakaway, along with 11 other European clubs, has changed everything for Marotta, who is reportedly wanted back at Juventus.

Inter, AC Milan and Juventus were rumoured to be at risk of expulsion from Serie A but the Rome-based publication assured nobody had made such a request.

Lega Serie A president Paolo Dal Pino is reluctant to throw flames onto the political fire, in any case, meaning the three clubs should be allowed to continue in the league without problems.
