Former Inter midfielder Andrea Mandorlini believes the Nerazzurri are on the verge of an extraordinary achievement as they close in on the Scudetto this season.

Antonio Conte’s side are 10 points clear of AC Milan and require a maximum of nine points to guarantee the title, as they welcome Hellas Verona to the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Serie A today.

In an interview published in yesterday’s newspaper edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, Mandorlini argued that a two-year process since Conte arrived in May 2019 was paying off with spectacular results.

“They are doing something really important and it is the culmination of the project, started with Conte last year that is now coming to fruition,” the Padova coach declared.

Mandorlini also hit out at critics of Inter’s approach to the game, arguing that it was successful and Conte had been able to transmit his ideas to the team effectively.

“We all expected something, but what they are doing is extraordinary. Comments about Inter’s style are there, we always try to pick negatives but Inter have their own idea and you can clearly see it.

“It is a style that pays off, scoring many goals and conceding few. I disagree with those that say Inter don’t play well. Conte has transmitted his ideas and that is evident. His football pays off, it has done in the past and I hope it will in the coming days. Then they can continue to improve, as always in life,” he concluded.

Mandorlini joined Inter from Ascoli in 1984 and scored nine goals in 180 appearances for the Nerazzurri, before moving on to Udinese in 1991. The 60-year-old won the Scudetto and the UEFA Cup during his stint at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.
