Inter CEO Beppe Marotta insists he agrees with coach Antonio Conte’s call for focus on securing the Serie A title, despite uncertainty behind the scenes.

The Nerazzurri look to move a step closer to the Scudetto when they welcome Verona to the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza this afternoon, as they are just nine points away from guaranteeing the title.

In an interview with Italian television broadcaster DAZN ahead of kick-off, Marotta argued that he backed Conte’s urge for focus on the title run-in, rather than the financial future of the club.

“I agree with two request, the demand for maximum concentration for the end of the season, and our focus,” Marotta claimed.

“At the end of the season we will evaluate like any other club. There is a lot of uncertainty because of the model in world football, but one day it is right to sit down to talk about future plans.

“Conte has stressed many times that many of our players have never had this pressure on them. I am close to him. We must not look at the opponent, they are difficult obstacles to overcome but our destiny is in our hands.”

Marotta also addressed on claims that more than half the teams in Serie A have penned a letter to Lega President Paolo Dal Pino requesting punishment.

“We do not know anything officially and we do not know the content, we have learned about it from the media,” Marotta claimed.

“We are in a tragic moment in football, there is a very high amount of litigation that hides the problem of sustainability. This model does not work, the pandemic has contributed to reduced revenues. I hope we can talk about football reform with a reduction of costs.”

After earning 11 consecutive wins at the midway point of the season, Inter have failed to win their last two games, with 1-1 draws coming against Napoli and Spezia respectively.
