Inter have celebrated the birthday of former striker Ruben Sosa as they looked back on the Uruguayan’s impact at the club.

In a post on the club website, Inter.it, the Nerazzurri marked Sosa’s 55th birthday today and took the opportunity to wish him well.

The Nerazzurri looked back fondly on his time with the club whilst also noting that he remains one of the most prolific scorers in their history, having struck 50 goals in just 104 appearances between 1992 and 1995.

“Happy birthday Ruben Sosa. The Uruguayan striker, who scored 50 goals in a Nerazzurri shirt, turns 55 today,” the statement read.

“He arrived from Lazio in the summer of 1992 and wore the Nerazzurri shirt for three very intense seasons, in which he scored 50 goals in 104 appearances, with one of the highest goal averages in Inter history.

“Ruben Sosa, who also won the UEFA Cup with us in 1993-94, turns 55 today and receives best wishes from the club and the fans.”

Sosa was named Inter’s player of the year in 1993 after a prolific season, before departing the Nerazzurri after three seasons with the club to join Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund, won the title in Germany.

He ultimately saw out his career in his homeland with Nacional and Racing Club de Montevideo, retiring in 2006.

The striker scored 15 goals in 46 appearances for Uruguay between 1984 and 1995, representing his country at the 1990 World Cup.
