Referee Daniele Orsato could return to officiating Inter matches in the future after colleague Rosario Abisso was selected for today’s match against Hellas Verona.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of Tuttosport, Abisso will take charge of a Nerazzurri game for the first time in over two years today, having not featured since a controversial 3-3 draw against Fiorentina in February 2019.

Abisso awarded a stoppage time penalty to the Viola for handball despite the ball seeming to strike Danilo D’Ambrosio’s chest, and after a five-minute VAR check stood by his decision. Fiorentina midfielder Jordan Veretout duly tucked away the spot-kick in the 102nd minute, sealing a draw.

However, with Abisso now cleared to officiate Inter games, the newspaper suggested that another referee with a controversial history with the club may also return.

Orsato took charge of a highly contentious 2018 3-2 defeat to Juventus in 2018, in which he failed to send Miralem Pjanic off for a second foul on Rafinha, despite dismissing Nerazzurri midfielder Matias Vecino.

As Orsato has since admitted he made a mistake whilst appearing on Italian television earlier this year, there is the possibility he may yet be made available for Inter matches.
