Antonio Conte is not getting carried away by Inter’s charge towards the Serie A title, as explained by a report in the Italian media today.
The Nerazzurri could be confirmed as champions for the first time since 2010 on Sunday, if they beat Crotone (on Saturday) and Atalanta fail to win at Sassuolo (on Sunday afternoon).
Despite this, Corriere dello Sport’s print edition said Conte was convinced that Inter still had a weaker squad than Juventus and were on roughly the same level as Napoli.
Conte views Inter’s likely Serie A title triumph as a real achievement, given the resources at his disposal, and is not convinced the Nerazzurri would be able to repeat such a feat without reinforcements in the transfer market.
Inter would need strengthening ‘in every department’ if they were to begin next season as Serie A favourites, the Rome-based paper claimed.
Conte’s side requires ‘a more than significant improvement’, meanwhile, if Inter are to become a competitive force in the UEFA Champions League.
Inter’s boss does not want the club’s directors to fall into the ‘trap’ of thinking there is no improvement required for next season, despite their incredible march towards the scudetto.
Conte will discuss Inter’s transfer plans with club president Steven Zhang when he returns to Milan, which could happen on Thursday.
