Matteo Darmian has proved all his doubters wrong since joining Inter from Parma last summer, according to a report in the Italian media today.

Corriere dello Sport’s print edition recalled that not everyone was enthusiastic about the Italian’s arrival when Inter recruited him to reinforce their wing-back spots.

Darmian joined as a back-up option but has ended up providing a far bigger contribution than Arturo Vidal and Aleksandar Kolarov, who arrived to greater fanfare last summer.

The 31-year-old – who was lauded by his former boss Giampiero Ventura recently – has always delivered when called upon and has even scored some huge goals, such as the one he provided in Sunday’s 1-0 win at home to Hellas Verona.

Darmian also scored for Inter during a 3-2 win at Borussia Monchengladbach in the UEFA Champions League group stage, along with the winner against Cagliari earlier this month.

The Rome-based paper described him as ‘a Milanista scoring goals to secure the scudetto for Inter’, in reference to his past at AC Milan where he won the 2007 UEFA Champions League.
