Alexis Sanchez was overcome with emotion on Tuesday as he celebrated the 15-year anniversary of his international debut with Chile.

The Inter forward made his first senior appearance in a 1-0 win over New Zealand on April 2007 in 2006, playing the final 32 minutes.

Sanchez, who is not certain to remain with the Nerazzurri for next season, has since made 133 appearances for his country and scored 43 goals.

The 32-year-old selected several pictures from his early days with La Roja and wrote on Instagram: “Time passes very quickly… it’s already 15 years since my debut with the national team.

“I’m sat here now asking how I did it, I was only 16 years old.

“I love this sport; to my family and all the people who were by my side through thick and thin, thank you.

“I will always give my best to represent Chile and if anyone doesn’t like the way I do it, let them know that I always try to give my best every second to give them a little joy.

“Vamos Chile!”
