Inter have received congratulations from one of their treble heroes following their Serie A title triumph.

The Nerazzurri were confirmed as champions on Sunday after they beat Crotone 2-0 and Atalanta subsequently drew 1-1 away at Sassuolo.

Antonio Conte’s side are 13 points clear of Atalanta, AC Milan and Juventus with four games left and that means they can no longer be caught.

Goran Pandev, who now plays for Genoa, told Gazzetta dello Sport for Monday’s print edition: “Well done Inter, it was about time.

“It’s a deserved victory which gives joy to the fans.”

Pandev was one of several treble heroes who gave their thoughts to the Milan-based paper on Inter’s scudetto, with Marco Materazzi arguing this one title was worth ‘four or five from any other team’.

The 37-year-old played 28 minutes as a substitute when Inter beat Genoa 3-0 at San Siro in February, with Conte’s side producing a dominant display.

“I’m disappointed my Genoa team wasn’t able to stop them,” Pandev added.

“It’s tough when you’re playing the champions of Italy though…”

Pandev made 69 appearances for Inter during an 18-month spell at the club, scoring eight goals in all competitions.
