Antonio Conte was urged to stay at Inter today by former AC Milan and Italy coach Arrigo Sacchi.

Conte’s future with the Nerazzurri beyond this season remains uncertain, despite having led the club to their first Serie A title in 11 years.

Inter have seen their fortunes transformed by Conte since his appointment as head coach in 2019, and Sacchi believes he still has a lot to achieve at San Siro.

“Your Inter side won the scudetto on merit, despite some difficult situations,” Sacchi wrote in an open letter addressed to Conte in Gazzetta dello Sport’s print edition.

“The president (Steven Zhang) was absent and that’s comparable to your family leader being missing, but there were other problems too.

“Your players improved individually thanks to hard work and the team’s style of play, and everyone has learned to not give up.

“Everyone has followed your example.

“This is a big success which has enabled you to win despite a very strong Juventus team, and I hope you continue your work with the Nerazzurri.

“I hope you manage to transform Inter into an international star, that’s your new challenge for the future.”

Conte is thought to be seeking reassurance from Inter’s owners Suning about their plans for the upcoming transfer window, before he commits his future to the club.

Sacchi had one piece of advice for Inter’s head coach ahead of the summer, before turning his attention to the Nerazzurri’s UEFA Champions League campaign next season.

“Be careful that you only sign players who are professionals who share your human values,” he added.

“Don’t keep or try to sign players who aren’t prepared to run and fight for their teammates.

“In Europe, you normally win thanks to a team effort, with pressing and an attacking and collective brand of football.

“Good luck, grande Antonio, I admire you.”
