Inter will take no action against their players after a late-night dinner which breached COVID-19 rules on Wednesday, according to a report in the Italian media today.

As per Gazzetta dello Sport’s print edition, Romelu Lukaku was accused of having organised a party in a Milan hotel to celebrate his 28th birthday, but that was far from the case.

Lukaku was having dinner with Achraf Hakimi, Ivan Perisic and Ashley Young in the hotel’s restaurant after the 3-1 win over Roma, and all four were sanctioned by police for breaking Italy’s curfew rules.

Inter have dismissed the incident as ‘an oversight’ and will not fine any of their players, instead opting to downplay what happened.

The Nerazzurri’s players are free to do what they want after a match, the Milan-based paper explained, especially after they have already won the Serie A title.

Lukaku and his teammates would only have needed to find a room in the hotel in order to avoid any sanctions, sources at Inter assured.

The feeling is that all four players ‘fell into a trap’, but in any case they will face no further punishment from the club ahead of tomorrow’s Derby d’Italia at Juventus.
