Steven Zhang owes Inter’s staff and supporters an explanation about where the club are headed, a leading Italian journalist has argued.

Inter are known to be battling serious financial problems and this led Zhang to ask players to give up two months’ wages on Monday, when he visited the squad at Appiano Gentile.

Suning have not clarified their plans for Inter heading into next season and both players and fans are in the dark about what happens next.

Speaking on Sport Mediaset earlier this week, Sandro Sabatini warned: “Zhang must do something and explain.

“Inter are not like any other business, you have to know their history.

“If Zhang is in this position because he can’t get any money out of China, he needs to explain that.”

Sabatini did not seem at all convinced that Suning could have a successful long-term future at Inter anymore.

“Will Suning still have these problems in 2022 and 2023?” he asked.

“We need to understand that, but Zhang can’t think about leaving Inter and making a profit.”

Inter are thought to be in talks with two US-based investment firms, namely Bain Capital and Oaktree Capital, over complex financing deals which will ease their short-term problems.

As explained by La Repubblica’s Franco Vanni, Zhang needs a deal sorted within a fortnight if Inter are to respect the Italian Football Federation’s deadline (May 30) regarding player salary payments.
