Romelu Lukaku is anxiously awaiting news on Antonio Conte’s future at Inter, according to a report in the Italian media today.

Gazzetta dello Sport’s print edition said Lukaku had an extremely tight relationship with his boss and was ‘strongly hoping’ Conte remained with the Nerazzurri.

Lukaku is under contract with Inter until 2024 and will respect his deal regardless of Conte’s future, but ‘a lot would change’ if his maestro were no longer standing on the touchline.

The Belgian has made his views on Conte clear to everyone at Appiano Gentile, although he is aware there are bigger issues at play which will determine his future.

Conte wants Lukaku at Inter and Lukaku wants Conte, which explains why the striker is not being rumoured as one of the possible ‘sacrifices’ in the upcoming transfer window.

Inter’s head coach is due to meet president Steven Zhang in the next few days, together with Inter’s directors, where Conte’s future should become much clearer.
