Inter could be set for a transfer derby with city rivals AC Milan, according to a report in the Italian media today.

Tuttosport’s print edition said both clubs were interested in signing Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud, who is available on a free transfer in the summer.

AC Milan would have a slight advantage over Inter, the report explained, because they could guarantee Giroud game time more easily.

Giroud would in fact be a reserve behind Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez if he joined the Nerazzurri, and it remains to be seen if the Frenchman would accept that.

Lazio are also thought to be monitoring Giroud’s situation, having already tried to sign the 34-year-old during last year’s January transfer window.

Giroud has made 31 appearances for Chelsea this season, scoring 11 goals in all competitions under Frank Lampard and Thomas Tuchel.

Inter could even sign Giroud to replace Lukaku if the Belgian were sold, according to an intermediary close to the Chelsea striker.
