Inter will be without Lautaro Martinez for their first Serie A fixture next season, whatever happens with the striker’s future.

El Toro will be suspended for matchday 1 of the 2021-22 campaign after he picked up his fifth yellow card of the campaign during yesterday’s 5-1 win over Udinese.

Serie A’s sports judge confirmed the ruling on Monday (as reported by FcInterNews.it), meaning Lautaro will be unavailable for Inter’s first game in their Serie A title defence.

There is of course no certainty that the 23-year-old will still be at the club anyway, given all the speculation surrounding his name at present.

Inter finished their Serie A campaign in style with a 5-1 win at home to Udinese, in which Lautaro scored the third goal from the penalty spot.

Lautaro’s one-game ban would be valid for the Supercoppa Italiana, when Inter will play Juventus, but that game is likely to take place in January and so the forward will probably miss a league game instead.
