Inter will be paying a much lower salary to Simone Inzaghi than they gave Antonio Conte, according to a report in the Italian media today.

Gazzetta dello Sport’s print edition said Inzaghi would sign a two-year deal with the Nerazzurri worth €4 million annually after tax, plus bonuses.

Inzaghi would have earned €2.5 million at Lazio had he signed the three-year contract he was offered, so he is set for a hefty pay rise.

Inter will be saving a lot of money though, because Conte was earning €13 million (although he has received a €6.5 million payoff after leaving by mutual consent on Wednesday).

Inzaghi came close to taking a big job in Serie A two years ago, the Milan-based paper recalled, when Juventus made an enquiry as they sought a replacement for Max Allegri.

Inter are expected to unveil their new head coach at the start of next week, although other reports have suggested they could announce him today.
