Luciano Spalletti remains an admirer of Inter midfielder Radja Nainggolan, according to a report in the Italian media today.

La Nuova Sardegna (via CalcioCasteddu.it) said Spalletti could ask his new club Napoli to seek a deal for the Belgian, who he coached for several years at Roma and Inter.

Nainggolan is thought to have little interest in a reunion with Spalletti, instead making it clear that he wants to rejoin Cagliari.

Cagliari signed the 33-year-old on a six-month loan in January and are working to secure a permanent deal with Inter.

Inter still have Nainggolan on their books for one more season, the report explained, with the midfielder’s salary expected to cost the club €4.8 million.

Nainggolan is prepared to give up that money if he receives a payoff from the Nerazzurri, at which point he would agree to terminate his contract 12 months early.

A report in Italy today suggested Inter and Cagliari could include Nahitan Nandez in a deal for Nainggolan, albeit negotiations wouldn’t be simple.
