Romelu Lukaku is wanted back at Chelsea and they are going all-out to sign the Inter striker, a report in the UK revealed today.

Eurosport said the Blues’ owner Roman Abramovich was ‘personally driving’ the push to bring Lukaku back to West London, after the Belgian left the club in 2014.

Abramovich is convinced Lukaku is the ideal signing to help Chelsea launch a Premier League title bid next season, after Thomas Tuchel’s side became European champions on Saturday.

Talks are ‘already open’ regarding his contract, the report claimed, but Manchester City are offering Lukaku higher wages and could snatch a deal from under Chelsea’s noses.

Simone Inzaghi does not want to lose Lukaku after being appointed to replace Antonio Conte, and the 28-year-old is ‘loving life’ in Serie A.

Inter’s financial problems mean he ‘needs to be assured of the club’s direction’ if he is to stick around – although this has already happened, according to reports in Italy this week.

Lukaku would be willing to return to the Premier League and it seems he would have the choice of either joining the UEFA Champions League winners or the Premier League champions.

Chelsea would have to make Lukaku their highest-paid player to sign him, but a return to Stamford Bridge is apparently ‘a genuine possibility’.
