Napoli could be hitting a financial issue in their plans to sign Chelsea left-back Emerson Palmieri, who Inter are also interested in, according to a report in the Italian media today.

As has been reported today by Corriere dello Sport, the fact that Napoli did not qualify for the 2021/22 UEFA Champions League means they may not be able to drum up the cash to sign the Italy international.

He currently earns €4 million a year at the Champions League winners, which is a salary that Napoli would almost certainly not be able to match. This means they may need to strike a deal with Chelsea that sees the London club still pay a percentage of the 26-year-olds wages.

Inter are not in a position to bid for Emerson Palmieri yet because they have not made any significant money from players sales. The Nerazzurri may be able to afford the wages but not yet.
