With Andrea Ranocchia’s one-year contract extension having been confirmed earlier today, it has been revealed that the defender could stay an additional year after 2022 at least.
This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, who report that the extension signed by the 33-year-old contains the option of a further one season, which is the Nerazzurri’s to exercise.
The defender’s contract was set to expire at the end of the month, with the club having offered him a one-year extension to keep him at the club until at least 2022.
It is thought that offers from Cagliari and Bologna caused considerable interest to the player, causing him to take some days to consider whether to sign the extension offered by the Nerazzurri, but his preference is to stay and so in the end he renewed with the club.
It is thought that Inter are prioritizing continuity in the squad, with Ranocchia a strong presence in the dressing room, and new manager Simone Inzaghi will be happy to have him in the squad.
The club show their commitment to his continued presence by including the option to extend him beyond just one more season in the contract.
