Inter are discussing the extension of Marcelo Brozovic’s contract with the player, with the midfielder’s current deal set to run out in June 2022.

This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, who report that the club are intent on keeping the player who they regard as a vital squad member.

The Croatian has been an important contributor at the Giuseppe Meazza in recent seasons, being a nearly ever-present starter under Antonio Conte and winning the Scudetto last season.

It is thought that the club still see his role as significant, and that new manager Simone Inzaghi hopes to build his team around the midfielder.

The technical and tactical attributes of the player are an important part of the functioning of the Nerazzurri’s midfield with squad as currently constructed, and the club would not want to lose him imminently.

Once the player returns to Italy from international duty with Croatia, contract talks with the club should seriously resume.

The 28-year-old currently earns a net of €3.5 million per season at the Giuseppe Meazza, though it is not yet known what kind of financial terms the club intend to offer or what the player’s expectations are.
