Andre Onana will be Inter’s next goalkeeper, with the Cameroonian set to leave Ajax and join the Nerazzurri on a free transfer next summer.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who report that only the formalities remain to seal an agreement that will see the 25-year-old join Inter when his contract expires at the end of June 2023.

Ajax had been hoping to sell Onana for a fee this summer rather than lose him for nothing next summer, especially with the player set to miss part of next season as he serves out what remains of his one-year doping ban.

However, in the end, the player rejected talks with French side Lyon as he only wanted a move to Inter, with whom he has been ironing out an agreement to come in next summer as the first-choice goalkeeper to replace Samir Handanovic.

The Corriere also report that Handanovic could stay on as Onana’s experienced deputy after next summer, with the Slovenian’s future uncertain given his age and the fact that he has yet to sign an extension on his contract which expires next summer.
