Atalanta manager expects Inter target Duvan Zapata to remain with the Bergamo-based club for the upcoming season, though he acknowledges that there is little certainty of the future in the transfer market.

Speaking in a press conference ahead of Atalanta’s Serie A opener against Torino tomorrow, as reported by FCInter1908, the Italian coach stated that he expects to depend on Zapata as part of his plans for the season.

Zapata has been identified as a major target for the Nerazzurri as they search for a striker to replace Romelu Lukaku following the Belgian’s sale to Chelsea.

So far, however, the club have proved unable to agree on a deal for the Colombian with La Dei, despite the striker being seemingly receptive to making the switch.

Gasperini thinks that Zapata could still be sold to Inter given that the summer has already provided some surprises, but believes that it is likelier that he will not be sold.

Asked whether Zapata would stay at the club, Gasperini stated, “I think so, but it is not something I can be more certain of than you.”

“I don’t know what will happen,” he continued, “it is a very strange transfer market with few movements, and then there are sensational transfers with remarkable figures. I find it hard to make predictions.”
