Another major sale could be on the way at Inter next summer, with the club needing to once again bring in a significant sum from the transfer market to financially stabilize themselves, and the likeliest players to go would be Nicolo Barella, Milan Skriniar, Latuaro Martinez, or Alessandro Bastoni.
This according to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Nerazzurri have only stabilized themselves for one year with the sales of Achraf Hakimi and Romelu Lukaku during the summer, and will have to turn to the sale of another major player to raise around €100 million.
The Nerazzurri endured a summer of major upheaval, seeing Hakimi and Lukaku leave for PSG and Chelsea respectively, and even with the arrivals of several players as replacements the club still brought in a net of around €140 million.
This was sufficient along with a loan from US fund Oaktree Capital to stabilize the club financially amid ongoing financial problems related to the pandemic and the debt and liquidity problems at owners Suning.
However, the underlying problems remain, and despite having secured themselves financially for a year or two at most the Nerazzurri will be forced to make another major sale to raise a similar amount next summer as Suning are unable to inject any cash into the club.
The only four players whose sale could raise a sufficient amount would be Alessandro Bastoni, Nicolo Barella, Milan Skriniar or Lautaro Martinez, given their market values, the report continues.
In the meantime, smaller adjustments could be made such as the potential departure of Alexis Sanchez in January, which would see the club save on his net €7 million annual wages.
However, unless there is a change of ownership, moves of this type would not be sufficient and only another blockbuster sale such as those seen in the summer just gone would be sufficient to bring in the money needed.
