Legendary former Inter striker Aldo Serena believes that he and former teammate Ramon Diaz were virtually a perfect duo up front when they won the Scudetto together in the 1988-89 season.

Writing in a comment on a photo of the pair celebrating on his Twitter account, Serena praised Diaz for his qualities and suggested that they functioned perfectly as a complementary pairing.

Serena was Serie A’s top scorer in the 1988-89 season, comfortably taking the Capocannoniere crown with 22 goals across the season, while Diaz was some ways back in the standing with twelve strikes finding the back of the net.

However, the 61-year-old credits Diaz for his complete skillset which brought the best out of him as a striker and helped the pair lead the team to a memorable triumph in Serie A.

He praises the Argentine’s qualities and suggests that because of his less eye-catching goal tally, he does not get the credit that he deserves.

“We were the most perfect duo of the 1988-89 season,” he writes. “The most underrated player from that team. In a midfield with that power, that athletic strength, his technique and his vision of the game were indispensable.”
