Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi believes that his team are performing well in big matches, but that they must find ways to get the better of the key moments in which the matches are decided.

Speaking to InterTV after he saw his team draw 1-1 with AC Milan in the derby, the 45-year-old lamented that the key episodes do not seem to be going the Nerazzurri’s way even when they do enough to get the results they need from these types of head-to-head clashes.

Inter have failed to beat the likes of Atalanta, Lazio, Juventus, and Milan so far this season, and in all of these games some turning points has seemed to go against them.

A missed penalty saw them fail to get a winner in a 2-2 draw against La Dei, while a talking point of the Lazio match was the Biancocelesti’s counterattack goal scored while Inter defender Federico Dimarco was on the ground recovering from a heavy challenge, which saw the Nerazzurri fall to their only Serie A defeat of the season.

The Nerazzurri had done well to take an early lead against Juventus and were minutes from seeing their slender advantage out, but a controversial late VAR penalty allowed the Bianconeri to equalize.

Against the Rossoneri, as with the Atalanta match, Inzaghi’s team yet again failed to take three points after a missed penalty, with Lautaro Martinez seeing his spot kick saved when he had the chance to put his team 2-1 up during the first half.

Of yesterday evening’s match, Inzaghi stated that “I think we certainly deserved more, but right now that’s the way it is. We had clear and significant opportunities, in my opinion we didn’t approach the game well in the first twenty minutes. Then we played at ithe right pace, we lacked the cynicism that would have allowed us to bring home the full result.”

“I think that in the last six games we have gotten four wins and two draws against Juventus and Milan where we deserved more,” the coach reflected.

“That’s the way it is right now,” he stated, “we have to work harder, but these matches give us confidence. Now we will have to recover as best we can for the matches against Napoli and Shakhtar, hoping that the injuries are not serious.”

He emphasized that “We have to be good at turning the key moments in our favour, we have to do more while continuing to believe in the work that is being done. We are at a good point in the Champions League, in the league we are on a good path but there are two teams that have been perfect so far and we have to catch up to them.”
