Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni feels that the squad is united in a common purpose and that everyone feels that they have a major role to play.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN after his side drew 1-1 with AC Milan in the derby, the 22-year-old spoke about the sense of togetherness and commitment to the project in the squad.

Bastoni started against the Rossoneri as coach Simone Inzaghi looked to start his strongest eleven for the massive head-to-head clash, but the coach will have had multiple selection dilemmas all over the pitch.

Inzaghi has already turned to many members of his squad in key moments throughout the season, and even the players who have barely had roles to play have proved themselves more than useful, especially in recent matches where squad rotation proved important during a congested period in the fixture calendar.

The team under Inzaghi also plays a very fluid style of play in which players like Bastoni have complicated and fluid roles in the team, as he explained, stating that “The positions now count for little, you have to move a lot on the pitch. The coach asks this of us.”

“We knew it was important to win to get closer to the top,” he went on, “but when you don’t win you shouldn’t lose. When there is high intensity there are some mistakes, we are satisfied with what we have done.

Bastoni concluded that “I feel as important as everyone else, we are a united group like in the other years. The work begun by Conte, Inzaghi is carrying out well, there are no reserves, those who play always do well. We all feel part of the project.”
