Legendary former Inter defender Beppe Bergomi believes that the Nerazzurri looked to be the stronger side than AC Milan in the derby yesterday.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, the Nerazzurri legend praised his former side’s display and suggested that they deserved a better result than the 1-1 draw which they got based on the way that the entire match went.

Inter had an early Hakan Calhanoglu penalty cancelled out by a Stefan de Vrij own goal which came not long after, while Lautaro Martinez had a second spot kick saved which was among the opportunities to go ahead again.

In the end, the Nerazzurri had to settle for sharing the points with their city rivals and were not able to make up ground, but Bergomi felt that they put in a strong display and also had positive words for midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu on his first derby against his former side.

“Inter have been better in terms of the play,” he stated. “Milan were very aggressive, but coming to catch Inter is not easy with Bastoni who often comes into the midfield. Inter were better over the ninety minutes: Milan then hit the post but the Nerazzurri missed many chances”

Of Nerazzurri striker Lautaro Martinez, Bergomi stated that “He is a bit nervous: it is not an easy moment, he cannot find the goal. The best was Calhanoglu, not only for the penalty, but for the personality: he played with fight, he showed himself, he has always been dangerous. Good games from Darmian and Perisic, Bastoni behind was the best. Dzeko so-so, but he deserves the pass.”
