AC Milan have been fined €5000 by the Sports Justice in Italy for the projectiles thrown at the pitch by some of their fans during the Milan derby against Inter on Sunday.

This according to Italian news outlet FCInter1908, who report that the Nerazzurri avoided any punishment for the fireworks that were set off by some supporters during the match.

The first derby back with fans since February of 2020 was always likely to have an intense atmosphere, as supporters were able to welcome the sets of players back to one of Italian football’s showpiece occasions for the first time in well over a year after the past three editions were played behind closed doors due to the pandemic.

The action on the pitch lived up to the billing, while the atmosphere also met expectations, though this unfortunately included some objects being thrown onto the pitch.

The Rossoneri have received a monetary fine for the actions of the supporters who were throwing the projectiles, while the Nerazzurri have not been handed any fines despite the use of firecrackers, pyrotechnics, and smoke bombs by some supporters.
